Don't buy this unit - it cannot deal with humidity

This AC unit is awful. My apartment had 20+ year old built in GE units that worked great, except for the black stuff (hopefully crumbling insulation) blowing out of them every time I used them. We got these as replacement units. 1) The "dry" mode is the most ridiculous lie. I live in the Northeast, and it the summer it cools off at night, but the humidity skyrockets. I've tried to put my ACs in dry mode overnight to help with that, and it ends up MORE humid INSIDE my apartment than it is outside. 2) These units are definitely not quiet. I have to turn the one off in my living room in order to watch anything on my tv. 3) They're smaller than the old units, so the built in housing that is supposed to work for every GE model is a little too big, and the people who installed them didn't bother to insulate around them to fill the gaps, so I sometimes get large bugs (including the occasional wasp) coming into my apartment. It makes me sad that I pushed for replacements - I should have just lived with the black stuff spewing out of the old units.

The unit has been replaced once and the current unit is making noise. A service technician is coming to my home after the weekend to access the problem. I am not happy with this air conditioner. I requested a different unit but was told by the store where I purchased it I would have to take it up with GE.

Possible Manufacturing Defect

Possible manufacturing defect... when I removed the filter to clean it, I noticed there was a half inch separation/gap between the left side of the air filter holder and the gray strip of material covering the interior of the air conditioner. My question: Is this gap part of the overall design or is this a manufacturing defect and, if so, does the gap affect the overall performance/operation of the air conditioner? Also, I have found that the inner grill (gold color) collects dust even when a clean filter is in place. Removing dust from the inner grill is quite labor intensive. The use of a vacuum cleaner's crevice tool easily risks damaging the grill 'teeth' by mashing them together impacting the air flow. Question: What is the recommended method of cleaning dust from the inner grill? Overall, I found the air conditioner to be nosier than I expected but I can live with it.

Only worked for 1-1/2 months before it went dead! Paid to have it installed, but for the service work, I had to hire somebody to come over and take it out of the wall for me so I could bring it in and now when it™€™s ready after the service I have to go and pick it back up and hire someone again to put it back in the wall not happy with that.

Was great up until the first day over 90 and it stopped working. Also great that an $800+ AC doesn't come with a warranty, it has to be purchased. Not happy. Getting ahold of customer service is like pulling teeth. Been installed since November, only been able to USE it for 3 months and it completely stops turning on.

Works well, but mice problem

AC unit works great, love the remote, WiFi, and the different settings. It is a little on the noisy side. Unfortunately mice have made their way into mine and are working on chewing out the foam insulation. I™€™ve had to take it apart best I can to fill with mice traps. Not sure if this is a common problem with this particular AC, but it™€™s pretty open on the outside part of it.
