So in my case my GE GXSH40V was very simple to install, and worked perfectly for 2-years. Then the problems began. The motor that runs the rotor head started to get stuck. So I troubleshooted it, unplugged, reset, and it worked again. Then, it started happening 1-2x per week where it would begin a cycle, fill the brine tank completely, then rotate and get stuck in some sort of flush mode that would run all night long. The brine tank however would stay filled the entire time the system was flushing. It is now to the point that the rotor will not do anything but go in circles (opening/closing the valves) until I receive and ERR code. Which in my case says ERR3. Oh, and in case you're wondering, the brine tank stayed full until I had to manually drain with a cup and bucket myself. With GE providing little to no help when I inquired about parts and servicing plumbers, I knew if I called someone out myself, the plumber's fee would cost more than the price of the unit did. So, I went ahead and shut the GE down (2 years later) and opted to buy a new softener from a different company.

I purchased this unit for around $500, then paid $1,500 to have it installed by a master plumber. 2 years later it gets stuck regenerating. I followed all the instructions in the owners manual and it's still stuck. I call three plumbers and each says to call GE Appliances and they'll help me find a licensed repair tech. I call GE and they tell me sorry you spent $2k on this we don't have anyone in your area who fixes these. You can try calling a plumber and when they get there have them call our technicians they only talk to licensed plumbers. Which obviously plumbers are not in the business of appliance repair. So I'm out $2k for this purchase and now get to go buy a different unit. Awesome customer service GE!

Had this water softener for a little over 2 years. Come to find out we had resin beads clog up every water source in our home. GE said since they only cover warranty for parts for 1 year I would have to pay $100 for a tech to come out. Doesn't include labor and parts. Staying away from GE products in the future

I bought GE water softener GXSH40V on 2/17/20 at HomeDepot. The first year it worked fine. Just past 1 year it stopped working. We contacted GE and their answer was it is over the 1-year warranty. They gave us the local service phone number for repair. After replacing parts and working for a month, then we called the service guy to fix it again. A week ago, we saw blinking lights with a code of Err1. GE said the motor has a problem and needs to be replaced. The product worked for less than 2 years. This product is not worth repairing because any repair will last for only a short time. I highly recommend that no one purchase this GE water softener.

Product worked well for about 18 months. Then one morning had an issue with water pressure and in the middle of a shower an orange substance came out of the water. Got in shower heads toilets and everything had to be replace because the brine came out. Called for warranty and basically warranty is you pay for them to look at and if they decide it could be a warranty they would replace that piece free of charge and I would have to pay for the brine refill. Not much of warrant and the cost to fix my house. Do not buy!

Cheap, cheap, cheap, cheap materials, parts and service.... That's all GE offers. And then when you buy replacement parts, because the originals break just by looking at them, they say 3-5 days for delivery, but I'm on day 6 and delivery status update says it'll be another 3 days.
Until then, I have a water softner that's completely useless. Going on 10 weeks without being able to use it because the cog, white plastic identified in picture with arrow pointing at it, is completely gone. Why? No idea, other than GE makes cheap products.

I am in water and wastewater treatment and this GE Softener model just sucks!!! Buyer beware!!! Woke up one morning with garage floor flooding all the way to the driveway and planters. The unit was leaking and regenerating all night.

Product seems to be working just fine. (I had an older Kenmore that failed and sent resin beads through out the plumbing ie. toilets, sinks washer, dishwasher, refrigerator and Water Heater had to replace it). Hope this one will last and not do a repeat!

I like how easy it was to install. I had to learn plumbing while doing this project simply cause I haven't worked with pex pipe. I have always done the pvc. So with that said once I figured out the pex and fitting and crimp tools and clamps this was a breeze to do. Main point it was easy to install and the wife loves the new soft water.
Highly recommend this softener..

This my second GE Water Softener, The first started failing to soften my water after 15 years. This one has the same features and the additional feature of blending the softened water to save salt and resources. The controls are intuitive and the setup instructions were quite clear. I look forward to many years of service.

We had the water softener put in during construction of our new house. It is very easy to use and the digital display screen is very easy to read. It is very easy to fill it with salt and set it to go. It really has done wonders on the very hard water that we have where we live. I would highly recommend this GE water softener to anyone in the market for one.

I purchased my first unit in 2011 and I had absolutely no issues with the unit. None! The issue was finally that the resin bed filled with enough contamination that it was causing the unit to malfunction. I had a choice of replacing the resin or just buying a new unit. I choose to buy another unit. I do recommend putting in an upstream filter to extent the life of the resin bed.

The water softener was easy to install and works great. My only suggestion to GE is to place "up arrows" on the side of the box to indicate how the box should be oriented when carried horizontally to avoid dislodging the tank.

Bought on Amazon. Delivered in 2 days. Easy to install and set up. Only caveat: make sure you enter your water hardness in grains per gallon instead of ppm..Otherwise it will start the regeneration process too frequently (my bad!!)

The only thing that I'm disappointed is there are only 2 salt efficiency settings (Salt Saver on/off), so the quoted specs from the manual are not obtainable (it will run at 4,000 grain/lb salt, but no higher). This was my first attempt at plumbing, and it all went very smoothly. Make sure to read all the instructions first, and to sanitize the softener during the initial recharge cycle. Pressure drop in my house wasn't noticeable, and there is no change in flavor, but my water is soft!

We purchased this softner only 2 years ago, started leaking from the bottom when it regenerates, ruined our drywall. GE says it has a 10yr warranty, but wants pictures of the bottom of tank which is impossible to get to, GE would not send out a technician to check out the problem, said we needed to hire a plumber. We went with GE thinking it was a brand we could trust. We will never buy GE again.

The control panel is very easy to operate. There are also lots of information included in the unit that allowed you to monitor water use and salt life. The unit is modern and quite small. So far it works well and is very quiet.

This is installed by professional plumber but after installing it, we rarely have to pay any attention. Salt capacity with full tank lasts for an year. Water is softened and very less maintenance.
